Your Stellar crane's swing function has failed — the boom won't rotate, the swing is sluggish, the motor is leaking oil, or you hear grinding from the swing drive. The hydraulic swing motor is the component that converts hydraulic flow into the rotational force that swings the crane boom left and right. When it fails, you can't position loads — the crane is effectively grounded. The Stellar / B&B Crane dealer wants $329 to $369 for a replacement swing motor.
We sell the direct replacement for $249.00 — saving you over $80 vs the dealer. This is the same specification orbital motor: 8.0 cubic inch displacement, 2-bolt SAE A mounting flange, 1" straight shaft with woodruff key that mates directly with your existing swing pinion gear. Remove the old motor, bolt on the new one, and the crane is swinging again. Replaces Stellar part number C6069.
This motor fits Stellar cranes manufactured in March 2015 and earlier. In April 2015, Stellar changed the swing motor specification to a larger 160cc unit (Part #77895). If your crane was built in April 2015 or later, this motor will NOT work — you need part #77895 instead.
How to verify your crane's build date: Check the data plate on the crane's base section. The serial number and manufacture date are stamped on the plate. If you're unsure, contact us with your crane model and serial number — we'll confirm which motor you need before you order.
The Stellar swing motor uses a 2-bolt SAE A mounting flange (sometimes called a "cat eye" flange). This is NOT the same as a 4-bolt flange. Many orbital motors of the same displacement come in 4-bolt versions — a 4-bolt motor will NOT bolt into the crane's swing gear drive housing. Always verify you are ordering the 2-bolt version.
The swing motor on a service crane operates in a demanding cycle — constant start-stop-reverse as the operator positions loads. This generates significant internal stress on the gerotor elements, shaft seal, and bearings. Common failure modes include:
A crane that can't swing can't position loads. On a service truck, a grounded crane means the entire truck is out of service — no installations, no maintenance calls, no revenue.
This is a direct replacement 8.0 cu in orbital motor built to the same specification as the original factory-installed unit. The 2-bolt SAE A flange bolts directly to the swing gear housing, and the 1" keyed shaft engages the existing swing pinion gear. All port locations match the original — pressure, return, and case drain connect to the existing hydraulic lines without modification.
The C6069 swing motor fits the following Stellar crane models manufactured March 2015 and earlier:
⚠️ This motor fits March 2015 and OLDER cranes ONLY. April 2015+ models use part #77895. Verify your crane's manufacture date on the data plate before ordering. Contact us with your crane model and serial number if unsure.
How do I know if my crane was built before or after April 2015?
Check the data plate on the crane's base section — the manufacture date and serial number are stamped on it. You can also contact Stellar / B&B Crane with your serial number and they will confirm the build date. If the swing motor currently on the crane has the Stellar part number C6069, you have the pre-2015 version.
What is the difference between 2-bolt and 4-bolt mounting?
The 2-bolt SAE A flange (used on this crane) has two mounting holes in an oval "cat eye" pattern. The 4-bolt version has four holes in a square pattern. The bolt circle diameter and housing opening are different — a 4-bolt motor physically cannot be mounted on a 2-bolt housing. Always verify the mounting pattern before ordering.
Can I use this motor on a crane built after April 2015?
No. In April 2015, Stellar upgraded to a larger 160cc (approximately 10 cu in) swing motor, part #77895. The 8.0 cu in motor does not have enough displacement for the newer crane swing system and the mounting interface may be different. Using the wrong motor can damage the swing gear drive or result in insufficient swing torque.
My swing is slow but the motor isn't leaking. Is it the motor?
Possibly, but not necessarily. A slow swing can be caused by: worn motor (internal bypass), low hydraulic oil level, clogged return filter, relief valve set too low, worn swing control valve, or a restriction in the swing circuit hydraulic lines. Check the simpler items first (oil level, filter, relief valve) before replacing the motor.
Should I replace the swing pinion gear at the same time?
Inspect the pinion gear teeth when you pull the old motor. If the teeth are worn, chipped, or show pitting, replace the gear at the same time. A worn pinion will accelerate the wear on the new motor's shaft and eventually cause the same noise and performance issues.
