Your John Deere is slipping under load, chattering on engagement, or won't fully disengage — the clutch is done. Splitting a tractor is a major job, and you only want to do it once. That means replacing the pressure plate, disc, release bearing, AND pilot bearing all at the same time. Buy them individually and you're looking at $500+ from the dealer, plus the risk of mixing mismatched components. The aftermarket retailers want $446+ for a complete kit.
We sell the complete clutch kit for $399.00 — saving you over $45 vs the competition. This kit includes everything you need: the 11" pressure plate, woven organic clutch disc, release bearing, and pilot bearing. All components are matched and ready to install. Replaces John Deere part numbers RE22610, AR100649, and AT30046.
This is a complete single stage clutch kit — everything you need to split the tractor once and be done:
This clutch kit is for John Deere tractors with an Independent PTO and WITHOUT a reverser (shuttle shift). If your tractor has a reverser or a different PTO configuration, this kit may not be the correct fitment. Check your operator's manual or contact us with your tractor model and serial number to verify.
Splitting a John Deere utility tractor is a half-day job at minimum. You're separating the engine from the transmission, supporting heavy castings, wrestling with dowel pins, and working in tight spaces. The last thing you want is to do it twice because you only replaced the disc and the pressure plate fingers collapse six months later — or the pilot bearing seizes and destroys the new disc. When you split the tractor, you replace everything inside. Period.
This complete kit gives you every component that wears inside the clutch housing. The 11" pressure plate provides factory-spec clamping force with the 3-lever, 6-spring design. The woven organic disc delivers smooth, progressive engagement — not the aggressive grab of a ceramic disc that's unsuitable for loader work and precision maneuvering. The release bearing and pilot bearing are new, heavy duty, and pre-greased. Split the tractor, replace everything, torque to spec, and you won't be back inside for years.
Some kits come with a 6-pad ceramic clutch disc. Ceramic discs are designed for high-horsepower, heavy-draft applications where the clutch is engaged and stays engaged — plowing deep soil, pulling discs at full throttle. For utility tractor work — loader operations, mowing, hay work, grading — a ceramic disc is the wrong choice. Ceramic discs engage aggressively with minimal modulation, making precise, slow maneuvers jerky and difficult. A woven organic disc engages smoothly and progressively, giving you full control of the engagement zone. For the vast majority of John Deere 1020/2030/2440/2630/2640 owners, woven organic is the correct choice.
The RE22610 clutch kit fits the following John Deere models with Independent PTO and without a reverser:
⚠️ Some of these models were produced with different PTO and transmission configurations. Verify that your tractor has an Independent PTO and does NOT have a reverser before ordering. Contact us with your model, serial number, and PTO type if you're unsure.
Why should I replace everything at once instead of just the disc?
Splitting a tractor takes hours of labor. If you only replace the disc and the pressure plate fingers are worn, the release bearing is noisy, or the pilot bearing is sloppy — you'll be splitting the tractor again in months. The parts cost of a complete kit is a fraction of the labor cost to split the tractor twice. Always replace all four components when the tractor is apart.
What is the difference between woven organic and ceramic clutch discs?
Woven organic discs engage smoothly and progressively — ideal for utility work like loading, mowing, and general farming. Ceramic (6-pad) discs engage aggressively with very little modulation — designed for heavy draft work at sustained full throttle. For most 1020/2030/2440/2630/2640 owners, woven organic is the correct and preferred choice. Ceramic discs make precise, slow maneuvers jerky and difficult.
How do I know if my tractor has Independent PTO or Live PTO?
Independent PTO (IPTO) has its own clutch — the PTO continues to run when you depress the main clutch pedal. If your PTO stops when you press the clutch pedal, you have a non-independent (transmission-driven) PTO. This kit is for tractors with Independent PTO. Contact us with your serial number if you're unsure.
Should I resurface the flywheel?
Inspect the flywheel surface carefully. If it has deep scoring, heat spots (blue discoloration), or cracks, it should be resurfaced or replaced. Light glazing can be removed with emery cloth. A damaged flywheel surface will cause the new clutch to chatter, slip, or wear prematurely. Verify the flywheel step measures 0.820" — if it's out of spec, the pressure plate will not clamp correctly.
How long does a clutch last on a John Deere utility tractor?
With proper use — 2,000 to 4,000+ hours. Clutch life depends heavily on operating technique. Riding the clutch pedal, slipping the clutch excessively during loader work, and towing heavy loads in high gear all accelerate wear. A properly installed woven organic clutch kit with correct free play adjustment will provide thousands of hours of reliable service.
