Your front brake caliper is seized, leaking, or the piston is frozen from corrosion. Street brooms live in the worst environment for brakes — constant water, road grit, salt, and debris hammering the front calipers every time the broom is sweeping. Standard automotive calipers corrode and seize within a season or two. The dealer wants $245–$353 for a replacement caliper. That's a serious markup on a standard industrial disc brake.
We sell the direct replacement caliper for $189 — the Dacromet-coated, corrosion-resistant version designed specifically for wet, harsh environments. Comes loaded with ceramic brake pads — ready to bolt on. Replaces Broce part number 203554 and Superior part number 01-14100-130.
Street brooms operate in standing water, wet slurry, road salt brine, and abrasive road grit — all day, every day. This is one of the most corrosive environments any brake caliper can face. Standard automotive calipers use E-Coat or raw cast iron finishes that corrode quickly in these conditions. Dacromet coating provides a completely different level of protection:
Do NOT buy an E-Coat or raw finish caliper for a broom. It will corrode and seize. The Dacromet coating is not optional — it's the reason this caliper survives.
Generic replacement calipers often use a smaller 2" piston to cut costs. This caliper uses the correct 2-1/4" (2.25") stainless steel piston, providing significantly more clamping force on the rotor. On a machine that weighs 3,500–6,000 lbs and operates on wet roads, braking power is not the place to cut corners.
This caliper ships loaded — the high-performance ceramic brake pads are already installed and ready to go. No separate pad purchase needed. Ceramic pads provide:

⚠️ Verify your OEM part number (203554 or 01-14100-130) in your parts manual before ordering. Some older broom models may use a different caliper mounting bracket or rotor size. Contact us with your machine model, serial number, and rotor diameter to confirm fitment.
What's the difference between Dacromet and E-Coat?
E-Coat (Electrophoretic Coating) is a thin paint-like coating applied electrically. It provides basic corrosion protection for dry environments but breaks down quickly in sustained wet or salt exposure. Dacromet is a multi-layer zinc/aluminum flake coating baked onto the surface, providing dramatically superior corrosion resistance — 5–10x longer protection than E-Coat in salt spray testing. For a broom that operates in water and salt all day, Dacromet is the only coating that makes sense.
Can I use a standard automotive caliper instead?
You can, but it will corrode and seize much faster. Standard automotive calipers are E-Coated or raw cast iron — they're designed for vehicles that occasionally get wet, not machines that operate in standing water and road salt brine continuously. A standard caliper on a broom may last one season. The Dacromet caliper will last 3–5x longer.
Do I need to buy brake pads separately?
No. This caliper ships loaded — the ceramic brake pads are already installed. It's ready to bolt on out of the box.
Should I replace both front calipers at the same time?
If one caliper has failed from corrosion, the other is likely in similar condition. Replacing both ensures even braking and prevents a pull to one side. However, if only one caliper is failed and the other is still in good working condition (piston retracts freely, no leaks, no corrosion), you can replace just the failed one.
